Story of Ka 'Ohana

At the end of 2017, we launched the Ae Luv Hula store in order to bring aloha through curating a collection of affordable Hawaiian jewelry with our community. Since then, we have grown and changed in many ways - from what products we offer to how we interact with our customers.

When designing and planning out the new store and brand, we wanted to not only offer the pieces our community knows and loves, but to create, build, and share a memorable experience with you.

Now for a little story from one of our team members. "I grew up deep in the valley of Mānoa with my two sisters in the 70s/80s. My parents both worked tirelessly to afford to send us all of us to a good school, but beyond that we didn't own much. When I was graduating in my senior year, many of my friends received Hawaiian bangles from their parents and other family members. I remember feeling jealous because I knew that we couldn't afford it - so why even dream, right? I ended up working a server job and saving up money to buy my own, half a decade later. And it was the best feeling. Not only because I did it on my own, but because I was able to have something precious that I would be able to one day pass down to my children. That feeling is what I want to replicate in the experience that we offer at Ka 'Ohana."

That is where we decided upon the Ka 'Ohana name, meaning The Family in Hawaiian. Now, everyone is familiar with the famous "Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten" from Disney's Lilo & Stitch. But, we wanted to go a bit deeper than that. Whether you are from Hawai'i but moved away, still live there, have never lived there, have family from there/still there, or any other affinity with Hawai'i, you are now part of our 'Ohana - and we take care of our own.

While we currently do not offer any solid gold bangles (with fair trade (affordable) solid gold bangles hopefully being offered soon *crosses fingers*), we love to be able to offer our affordable options that are still extremely high-quality and more importantly have made thousands of customers happy - whether it was a gift or for themselves.

When you receive and open your package from us, our hope is that you have the same feeling as our team member when she opened hers.
